Some interesting historical events that happened today include:
1787- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" (A Little Serenade). One of his most popular works, it wasn't published until after his death
1793- the Paris museum now known as the Grand Louvre opened in the former royal palace
1821- Missouri (the gateway to the West), joined the Union as the 24th state
1921- President Franklin D. Roosevelt was stricken with a paralytic illness at the family's summer home on the Canadian island of Campobello. Doctors diagnosed him with poliomyelitis, but doctors today believe he had a rare condition called Guillain-Barré syndrome
1941- President Coolidge dedicated Mount Rushmore in the South Dakota Black Hills
1948- Candid Camera debut bringing humorous practical jokes played on unsuspecting everyday people into living rooms
1950- Sunset Boulevard premiered at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. It was directed by Billy Wilder and stars William Holden and Gloria Swanson
1966- the US Treasury discontinued circulation of the $2. In 1976 they reintroduced the bill as a Federal Reserve Note
1966- During the Perseid meteor shower, one fireball streaked across the sky during daylight hours. It was visible from Utah to Canada and caused numerous calls to the FAA. It is the only known case of a meteor entering the Earth's atmosphere and then leaving it again
1985- Michael Jackson bought ATV Music, which included every Beatles song, for $47 million
1990- Magellan entered orbit around Venus and started mapping it's surface
1993- Ruth Bader Ginsburg took the oath of office becoming the 2nd woman justice on the US Supreme Court
2003- the UK tops 100°F for the first time in recorded history

Henry Nestlé (1814) - he started as a pharmacist and created milk products for infants. Nestlé is my favorite brand for chocolate chips and is one of the most recognizable brands around the world.
Herbert Hoover (1874) - 31st President of the US who took office at the beginning of the Great Depression
Jack Haley (1898) - best known as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz
Leo Fender (1909) - despite being a musical innovator, he didn't know how to play the guitar yet it's still one of the best brands
Jimmy Dean (1928) - I don't really buy these sausages but I do agree with his philosophy
James Reynolds (1946) - best known as Abe Carver on Days of Our Lives. He's been playing it since 1981
Antonio Banderas (1960) - he made his debut in The Mambo Kings in 1992. I liked him as Zorro but I loved him as Puss in Boots. I also like Spy Kids.

Josh Gates (1972) - host of Expedition Unknown
