Hot or cold?

I'm still having trouble with my back, and muscle relaxers haven't helped.  Been using a heating pad, but wanted to alternate with ice pack but kept forgetting.  Finally just did a session with it, and it felt good as long as the cold was on it, but any relief was gone as soon as I took it off.

 

If you've had back pain, which has done better for you, hot or cold?
