The same exact issue is happening for me. I used to be able to get up to 20 coins for watching ads after doubling maximum. Now only getting two coins after doubling and not watching ads. So the two coins are free for every box.
Is anyone else seeing all of the lucky boxes come up at just one point, doubling to two points, with no ads playing? Mine has been doing this for days and through at least two phone updates.
