Mycroft Holmes

Mycroft Holmes es el hermano mayor e inteligente de Sherlock Holmes.

Pero no estoy aquí para escribir sobre el personaje. Estoy publicando la serie de libros sobre él.

The series is about Mycroft as a young man (before he got fat and decided to move as little as possible).

It's also about Sherlock as a younger man, still in in school and a bit of a jerk.

I'm on the second book in the series and enjoying it, but I'm finding that it's a bit too much like a Sherlock Holmes story. Except that it's Mycroft going around and making deductions with his buddy Douglas, instead of Sherlock and Watson.

One thing that stands out: The series is written by basketball great Kareem Abdul Jabbar! (And Anna Waterhouse)

According to the original books by Conan Doyle: He's the older, smarter, fatter brother of Sherlock. While not working, he likes to hang out at the Diogenes Club, which is a club for men who don't like people's company. He practically runs the government.

There. Now you're to to speed. ;)

Personally, I wish people left Mycroft Holmes to the imagination. He has such a mysterious ability giving his character the charm. The book ruined the character with the un-Doyle storytelling.

Ha! I've had similar misgivings, but I'm still enjoying it.

Have you, by any chance read the Sherlock Holmes books by Sam Siciliano? Very un-Doyle representation of Holmes. (But very enjoyable.)

I can imagine the enjoyability as I enjoyed other versions of Holmes, such as the TV series "Elementary" and "Sherlock" (2010) or even the blasphemously Hollywood-style films. It is just  Mycroft Holmes I wished to see him in mystery.

Sam Siciliano's Sherlock Holmes has been on my reading list, at the bottom, though. Now it's moved up, thanks to your comment!

I found the Siciliano novels very off-putting at first but they grew on me and I got to really enjoying them.

I don't want to provide any spoilers here as to why I felt this way, but I have a feeling that you'll figure it out very quickly.

Btw, it probably doesn't need to be said (but I'll say it anyway), be sure to read them in order.

He's a great character, and as another poster mentioned, is a bit of a mystery in the original stories.
