I agree with you on certain points but in certain parts of the world it's how their culture is.
I'm not saying a cheeky slap isn't needed for some kids. But to be beating your kids everyday just because you want to test another combo on them isn't normal. Why are kids coming into schools with bruises and scratches? Because they didn't finish the dishes on time? They didn't get full marks on a test? Some people shouldn't have kids end of.
