What are your favorite ways to do urban gardening? Any tips for newbies?

Almost any container can grow something. Milk cartons and 2 liter soda bottles for baby carrots, loose leaf lettuce, most of your herbs. Also, any type of sprouts if you like them fir stir fry or salads as you're harvesting them just as they are coming up. In 3 gal containers you can do baby carrots, radishes, leaf lettuces, herbs, Tom thumb (small cherry or grape) tomatoes, mini peppers. Old dish or cheap dish pans for these also. Green onions, celery. Edible nasturtium and marigolds.
For lights, multi spectrum led or so called plant lights.
Space wise, I have one of those inexpensive portable closets closets that has a cloth covering. Keeps everything in one place, sturdy, and with a white covering, the light refraction will definitely help with plant growth.

True. I have a small porch with some plants there as well as a shelving set up in one bedroom that serves my purpose.
