Hunting at Roadside III #18

Star of Persia(Allium Christophii) is an elegant ornamental onion with star-shaped silvery purple flowers, with atop narrow and hairy leaves. Blooming in late spring to early summer, this spectacular bulbous perennial enjoys long-lasting blooms and remains ornamental in the garden well into summer.

Flowers lack fragrance, but the leaves and bulbs have an onion aroma when cut or bruised. As well as attracting bees, butterflies and birds, it offers interest outside the garden, as it is brilliant both as a fresh cut flower and in dried flower arrangements.
