Red clover is a common plant of all kinds of grassy areas in the UK, from lawns to pastures, roadsides to meadows.
Red clover is a wild plant belonging to the legume family. Cattle and other animals graze on red clover. Both leaves and flowers are edible. The blossoms have a gentle and sweet taste with a hint of bean flavour when eaten raw. Break up the flower heads and sprinkle the blossoms into salads. They are also a good addition in baking and look beautiful as a garnish.
It has also been used medicinally to treat several conditions including cancer, whooping cough, respiratory problems, and skin inflammations, such as psoriasis and eczema.
