But impulse control is a personal problem.  No need to live rural if it's not a problem

One way I used to save: a) have a set amount taken out of my check each psy period (say one of those splurge takeoit meals). If you don't see it, you can't spend it. b) put it into an account, brick and mortar - that takes some effort to get to (out of town/state). Also, takes some additional effort to draw the funds out (don't get the online app). That savings will add up fast.
Now, at one time, long tern saving, you uses to be able to get savings bonds (EE) for $25. Not sure how much they are now and you have to hold them for a few years BEFORE you can cash them in. There's also certificates of deposit (was a minimum $500 you could get).

M14....I live on the edge of town, and when saving for 2 yearly trip to New Zealand to see our son and family, it's surprising how much we don't have takeaway too...(maybe once every couple of months, but has to be under £20)...have never had it delivered, as its too expensive compared to collecting 👍

    80. Buy the house costs money.
Money for extra gas to drive to town.
Extra money to buy double groceries to save on gas to limit trips to town.
Yeah, you aren't saving money 🤣
