I wish I could find them where I live. Apparently they grow here. Nice find

Thanks! Keep an eye out for streams, creeks, ditches and the like - those are some of their favorite places to grow. Google maps is a good way to find streams & such. As we're getting into fall you can look for their leaves from a distance, too; they go bright yellow and they're some of the biggest leaves in the forests they grow in. Good luck with your search!

Very sweet! And when they're really ripe you can smell them through the whole house 🤣

Wow, that's amazing! It sounds like you stumbling upon a hidden treasure trove of pawpaws in your secret grove! Their unique flavor that blends tropical notes of mango, banana, and vanilla must be an absolute treat. I'll definitely keep an eye out at my local farmer's market next August. Thanks for the tip!

I do consider myself lucky for finding such a productive grove! I suspect it may have been deliberately planted a long time ago, perhaps even by Native Americans.

Nope! They aren't even very closely related! But the taste and texture are pretty similar. Pawpaw pulp is softer and the flavor is a bit more nuanced.
