Cleaning walls

Question for homemakers: do you wash your walls? How do you do it?

Mine are pretty nasty in some rooms. I want to giv them a good scrubbing but I wanna make sure what's safe to use that won't ruin the paint or anything

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
