Whenever you use something, as soon as you have finished, put it away...
(Obviously, the first job is to try and make sure everything has a home - storage is key! Not enough storage... then maybe time to de-clutter?!) It's hard though, so good luck 😁

I like to focus on the things that drive me crazy first and then focus on that one area. Pick another area the next day and keep lumping your cleaning areas and working day by day. Once it's clean, it's hard to see it dirty again.

I use a laundry basket to collect items that need to bemoved to another room
I put it at the door of the room I'm cleaning and toss items in it that dont belong.

If it's hard to get started, just set a time if day or even just a timer for like 10 minutes when you get home to go through the house & put things up, clean up, start a load of laundry, etc. Doing it soon as you get home helps not start other things 1st.

There are great tips here! My best advice is to think about what will be most doable for you, start there, and see how it goes. Because of chronic pain and illness, I have a lot of trouble cleaning as I go. So instead, when I move from the space I'm in to another space, I try to take two or three things with me to put away. If I'm headed from the living room to the dining room, I'll put a fork in the kitchen in the way, then drop a pair of socks and a dirty dish rag I picked up from the kitchen counter into the laundry basket. In the laundry room I grab some folded clothes and put them away in the bedroom, where I grab the coffee cup I was looking for originally. Then back to the living room after a nice bit of movement and tidying all in one. Maybe this isn't your issue. My point is really to find a way to make common wisdom work for you.

Another tip is to find cornerstone habits. Make the bed daily (and take time to make it look inviting to you), take a walk daily, or drink a glass of water as soon as you get up. These can then be built up into routines. Tidy the bedroom floor after you make the bed, stretch or meditate after your walk, wash dishes for five mins after your drink of water (or while brewing coffee)... Whatever works for you.
