Hawthorn is a hardy plant which will grow well in nearly every soil and situation except high altitude and deep shade. Tolerant of very exposed positions, hawthorn is often seen on windy moorland or costal sites, its form distinctively shaped by the prevailing wind. Clusters of fragrant white flowers are followed by glossy red fruit.
