Hunting at Roadside IV #10

Orchard Grass (Dactylis Glomerata, also known as Cat Grass) is commonly found growing in shady places, such as orchards, undoubtedly led to its most widely known common name. The wind-pollinated flowers are borne in open irregular stiff-branched panicles (flower clusters); the pollen can cause hay fever in some people.

It is highly palatable to all classes of livestock, although it is considered a weed in turf grass. Cats are said to like to chew it, hence the common name Cat Grass. Orchardgrass is used in grass-legume mixes for nesting, broad rearing, escape and winter cover in upland wildlife and conservation plantings.
