Bonobo (M17)

The last of the great Apes is the bonobo.

I think the only time that I have seen a bonobo is in the Planet of the Apes movies.

The chimpanzee and bonobo look a lot alike but there are differences.

Build and Size: Bonobos generally have a more slender and graceful build, with longer limbs and a narrower chest, while chimpanzees are stockier and more robust.

Facial Features: Bonobos have darker faces with pink lips and a more rounded head, whereas chimpanzees have a more varied facial coloration and a more pronounced brow ridge.

Hair: Bonobos often have longer hair parted in the middle on their heads, giving them a distinct look, while chimpanzees have shorter, more uniform hair.

These differences, along with their unique behaviors and social structures, help distinguish the two species.

Did you know that bonobos are known for their peaceful and matriarchal societies? Unlike chimpanzees, bonobo groups are led by females, and they often use social bonding and sexual behaviors to resolve conflicts and maintain harmony within their groups.
