True.  It is very important to seek to understand the point of view of others.

I think it's more so to see how the other person responds. I know for me personally if I am doing that's it's because I want to know if the other person is going to tell me the truth or if they are going to lie to me but that's just me.
Dont get me wrong I love seeking others points of views but if I'm coming to you asking you a question that already know the answer too more often then not I'm trying to see if you are going to respond truthfully or not it's like a secret test in some ways

I see this as very valid as well as anything and everything can be said, whether in person, on the phone; or chat with a friend; a casual acquaintance; or a complete stranger.

35- some people want to hear how right they are , others need actual advise and some want to try to understand different perspectives. So answer at your own risk lol

Exactly! Both of your suggestions are true for myself. To see if I'm correct or to hear other's opinions/perspectives.

All the above and depending on what the original question is, a need to ask or probe a bit deeper. Some things need to know the 'why' behind them, on degree of importance, while others are just for curiousity.
