Extraordinary, unparalleled and timeless: Gregorio Paltrinieri writes another important chapter in the history of Italian sport!

With the bronze won in the 800 meters in Paris, Greg became the first Italian swimmer to obtain a medal in three different Olympic editions.

From gold in Rio in 2016, through bronze and silver in Tokyo, up to third place in Paris: Paltrinieri, the eternal.

At almost 30 years old, he confirms himself as one of the longest-lived swimmers in history, capable of excelling both in the pool and in open water.

For Gregorio, it seems that time has stopped. In a competition against young talents in their early twenties, the Italian showed off his experience, advancing stroke after stroke and lap after lap, making us dream of winning gold, but finally elegantly winning a well-deserved bronze.

Congratulations, Gregorio you are a legend!

Many sacrifices and hours dedicated to training: “I train six days a week and on Sundays I allow myself a bit of relaxation – he declared a few months before Paris -. I swim about 16-18 km a day and train in the water for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. I also train in the gym on Monday, Wednesday and Friday."

To reach the Olympic podium, every detail must be considered. The longevity of an athlete is not the result of chance, but the result of conscious choices even outside of sport, including nutrition: "I eat a hearty breakfast, because I have a long day ahead of me. Before entering the water I eat little and use mineral salts during training. For lunch and dinner, the first course is always pasta, while for the second I prefer something light like bresaola or ham at midday and fish or meat with vegetables in the evening."

The mental aspect also plays a fundamental role in this discipline, one of the many factors that must not be overlooked. “My basic strategy is always the same: before the races I try to establish how many strokes I have to do and where I want to be at a certain moment of the competition. I analyze each race in detail; I would say I'm very precise. However, things often don't go as I plan or as I expect."

For us Italians Greg is and will always remain a hero!
