Multiple Olympic Medalists at Paris Olympics 2024

I wanted to highlight the achievement of some athletes that were able to accomplish winning more than one Olympic medal in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games!

I will acknowledge, first and foremost, that some athletes do not have this opportunity due to the nature of their sport. This would include many team sports like football, volleyball, or basketball, as these competitions have no variety other than the designated sport. This would also individual sports that operate in a tournament format for competition like combat sports, fencing, tennis, and badminton.

Of all the athletes that were able to achieve multiple medals during the Olympics, three in particular stood out to me.

1. Simone Biles - USA Gymnastics

Simone Biles had the weight of the world on her shoulders going into the previous Olympics in Tokyo, which ultimately caused her to crumble under the pressure and withdraw from a majority of the competition. During this Olympics, she came back with a vengeance and secured three Gold medals, one Silver medal, and one 5th place finish (unfortunately falling on the balance beam during her routine). For her Olympic titles, she won them in the Team All Around, Individual All Around, and the Vault Events. Her silver medal came in a tough battle during the Floor Routine! Here's a picture of her with the medals below.

2. Leon Marchand - France Swimming

At the young age of 21 years old, Leon Marchand has a bright future ahead for him. I learned during the Olympics that he trains with Michael Phelps coach in Arizona and that move certainly paid off! He won 4 Olympic Gold Medals in his home country as well as an Olympic Bronze Medal during the team relay portion of swimming! I have no doubt he will be one to continue to watch for the French team and what an honour he got to go to his first Olympics at home in Paris! Tres bon, Leon!

3. Summer McIntosh - Canada Swimming

Inserting part of my Canadian bias here, I watched Summer at the Tokyo Olympics where she was only 14 years old when she first jumped into the pool as a member of the Canadian Olympic team! Despite only placing 4th, which isn't bad for a debut against professional athletes, I knew her future was bright and we would be seeing her on the podium at the next Olympics! Patriotically, I was correct and she achieved 4 medals this past Olympics in Paris - 3 Gold and 1 Silver; breaking two different Olympic records during her finals of two events! Because of the shorter than usual gap between Olympics, she's now only 17 years old and just seems to be getting started with her outstanding career! She was the perfect pick as the flag bearer for the closing ceremonies and I look forward to seeing what she does in the future in the pool!
