I'm a little late but today (August 30) some interesting historical events today included:

1885 -  the Andromedid meteor shower displayed more than 1300 meteors per hour

1905 -  Ty Cobb debut with the Detroit Tigers

1960 -  Inherit the Wind opened in theaters starring Spencer Tracy, Fredric March and Gene Kelly

1965 -  Bob Dylan released his 6th album Highway 61 Revisited which features "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Ballad of Thin Man"

1967 -  Thurgood Marshall became the first African American Supreme Court Justice

1983 -  Astronaut Guion S. Bluford Jr became the first African American to fly in space

1984 -  the Space Shuttle Discovery launched from the Kennedy Space Center on its maiden voyage

1992 -  Nirvana released the DVD Life at Reading

2007 -  the world's largest honeycomb broke the world record. Weighing in at 22 lbs and 1 Oz, it came from a beehive owned by Argirios Koskos of Greece
